Men’s Tennis falls in the finale of the UNLV Tournament

Las Vegas, NV — The Weber State men's tennis team fell to host UNLV, 4-3, on the final day of the UNLV Tournament.
"We played like a bunch of fleas. They are an extremely strong team, but we never went away and irritated them like crazy." Head Coach Brad Ferriera said, "Dawid Scholtz had a fantastic win today, and we had some very good doubles match wins."
In doubles, the 'Cats came back to take the doubles point thanks to wins from the duos of Dawid Scholtz/Toit Malan and William Zulch/Clement Lecoq. Scholtz and Malan took their match 6-2, while Zulch and Lecoq defeated their opponents 6-3 to clinch the doubles point.
In singles, the Wildcats fell behind early, but continued to battle. Zulch took his match on Court #6 in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, and Dawid Scholtz took his match in three sets, 6-2, 1-6, 7-5, keeping the Wildcats alive.
With the two sides matched up at 3, attention turned to Court #5, where Clement Lecoq took his opponent to the third set before ultimately falling, 7-6, 2-6, 3-6, to give UNLV their fourth team point and the match.
The 'Cats finish the UNLV Tournament with a 1-2 mark on the weekend after defeating UC Riverside but falling to UNLV and New Mexico State. The Wildcats will now take an extended break from play before returning to the court against Gonzaga on February 14th.
The Bulldogs come into the Valentine's Day match currently sitting at 1-2 on the season. The Zags will take on the University of Washington on February 8th before turning their sights to hosting the Wildcats.
