Wildcats Rally for 3-1 Win Over Portland State

Weber State volleyball rallied after dropping the opening set to earn a 3-1 victory over Portland State Thursday night at Swenson Gym.
The Wildcats battled through a tight opening set, but Portland State came away with a 26-24 win to take an early 1-0 lead.
Weber State responded in a big way in the second set, racing to a 10-2 advantage and never looking back. The Wildcats hit .393 in the set and rolled to a 25-15 victory to even the match.
The Wildcats carried that momentum into the third set, battling through a back-and-forth frame before pulling away late. With the set tied at 19-19, Weber State scored six of the final seven points to secure a 25-19 win and take a 2-1 lead.
Portland State held an early advantage in the fourth set, but Weber State continued to battle. After the Vikings led 19-18, the Wildcats responded with a 7-3 run to close out the set 25-22 and secure the 3-1 victory.
Weber State finished the match with 54 kills and hit .273 as a team, including a .400 hitting percentage in the fourth set. The Wildcats also recorded 12Â team blocks and nine service aces.
Lexie Carlson led Weber State with 15 kills, while Tennille Gonder added 14 kills. Ziya Munyer recorded 11 kills while hitting .429, and Sophia Sparrow added seven kills while hitting .400.
The victory moves Weber State to 9-4 overall and 2-1Â in Big Sky Conference play.
The Wildcats return to action Saturday when they continue their homestand against Northern Arizona at Swenson Gym.
