Fast start lifts Eastern Washington past Weber State

CHENEY, Wash. - Eastern Washington used a dominant first half and rolled to an 84-66 win over Weber State Saturday afternoon at Reese Court.
The Eagles made 15 of their first 20 shots and had a 15-0 run and jumped out to a 27-6 lead less than nine minutes into the game. They built a 26-point lead with 4:19 to play in the first half. Â
Eastern Washington shot 72 percent from the field in the first half and led 51-24 at the break. WSU shot 28 percent from the field in the first half.Â
EWU scored the first three points of the second half for its largest lead of 29 points. Weber State never got the lead closer than 18 points the rest of the game.Â
The Eagles finished the game shooting 60 percent from the field and held WSU to 39 percent shooting. Eastern Washington knocked down seven 3-pointers, while Weber State tied its season-low with just three made. The Eagles outrebounded the Wildcats 30-27 and had 17 assists. EWU also had 44 points in the paint.Â
Three Wildcats scored in double figures, led once again by Tijan Saine Jr., who finished with 20 points, along with two rebounds and two assists. It was Saine's seventh straight game scoring 20 or more points.Â
Viljami Vartiainen added 15 points with two 3-pointers, and freshman Duce Paschal tied his career-high with 14 points on 5 of 8 shooting.Â
Weber State is now 7-7 in Big Sky play with four conference games remaining.Â
The Wildcats will host Montana State and Montana next week for the final home games of the season.Â
