Wildcats finish regular season with an 81-52 win over Vikings

#9 Weber State will face #10 Portland State on Saturday at noon to begin the Big Sky Tournament.
OGDEN, Utah - Weber State women's basketball closed out its regular season with an 81-52 win over the Portland State Vikings. With the victory, the Wildcats finish the season 10-21, 4-14, and ranked ninth in the Big Sky.Â
The game began with Antoniette Emma-Nnopu sinking two free throws for Weber State. Both teams then continued to exchange baskets in a closely contested first quarter. The Wildcats Lanae Billy played a crucial role, scoring a layup and a jumper midway through the quarter, while Hannah Robbins added a layup to keep the score tight. A pivotal 3-pointer by Nicole Willardson, with just 51 seconds remaining, gave the Wildcats a narrow 16-13 lead at the end of the quarter.
The Wildcats led the second quarter with efficient scoring in the paint, accounting for eight of their points. Sydney White was instrumental, scoring twice from close range, while Emma-Nnopu added a jumper at the 35-second mark. The Vikings struggled to maintain momentum, with Brown hitting a pair of 3-pointers to keep the game close. Despite their efforts, the Wildcats defense, highlighted by two blocks and one steal, limited the Vikings scoring opportunities, ending the quarter with an 18-13 advantage.
The Wildcats maintained their lead in the third quarter with a solid performance, outscoring the Vikings 17-14. Paris Lauro hit a crucial 3-pointer with 6:11 on the clock, extending the home team's advantage. Portland State's Brown responded with a layup and free throw, but Emma-Nnopu's two free throws with 39 seconds left secured the Wildcats nine-point lead going into the final quarter.
