Wildcats take home opener over Vikings

Ogden, UT — The Weber State Wildcats defeated the Portland State Vikings 6-1 in the Wildcats' home opener at the Edman Tennis Courts
Weber State clinched doubles by scores of 6-3 on Courts #2 and #3. Dawid Scholtz and Theo Mottier took the match on #3, setting up William Zulch and Toit Malan to clinch the doubles point on #2.
In singles, the Wildcats took five of the six matches, with three of them going the three-set distance. William Zulch provided the clincher with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 win on Court #6 to get the Wildcats to 4 team points on the day.
Toit Malan prevailed in a marathon over his opponent 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (13-15), 10-8, and Dawid Scholtz battled back to take his singles match 2-6, 6-0, 6-4.
Weber State, now 1-1 in Big Sky play, will play host to the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks on Saturday, March 28th against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks.
The 'Jacks come into Saturday with an 11-5 mark on the season, and a 3-0 start to Big Sky play. The match will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Ogden Athletic Club.
