Wildcats Finish Third at The Shark Invitational

LONG ISLAND, NY – The Weber State men's golf team finished up The Shark Invitational on Tuesday with a third place finish at Nassau Country Club after posting a three-round total of 855.

The Wildcats recorded rounds of 291 and 278 on Monday before closing out with a 286 over the final 18 holes.

Ty Anderson and Markus Nanpei each shot 2-over par totals of 212 to tie for eighth place on the individual leaderboard to lead the way for Weber State.  Anderson's 212 came on rounds of 71, 71 and 70, while Nanpei posted rounds of 73, 67 and 72. Nanpei carded a team-high 12 birdies over the event, including five in each of his final two rounds.

Jesus Castaneda shot rounds of 77, 70 and 71 for an 8-over par total of 218 to tie for 26th place, while Bobby Kincaid finished 34th on rounds of 74, 70 and 76 for a 10-over par 220. Matthew Wilson rounded out the Wildcats with scores of 73, 81 and 73 for a 17-over par 227 to tie for 59th place.

Bryant and Northern Colorado each shot 9-over par totals of 849 to tie for the team championship, six shots ahead of Weber State. Bryant was led by individual medalist Matthew Young, who shot 4-under par 206.

The tournament was the final outing for Weber State ahead of the Big Sky Conference Men's Golf Championships, which will be held April 27-29 at Wigwam Golf Club in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
