Tanner Jacobson was named the Associate Head Coach for Weber State football in January 2026. He is also be the Special Teams Coordinator and coach the WSU linebackers. 

Jacobson, a former player at Texas Tech and BYU, comes to WSU after spending the last four seasons as the head coach at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas.  

In his four seasons, Jacobson led the Apaches to 28 wins, won two conference championships, and was twice named the conference Coach of the Year. In 2025, he led the team to an 11-1 record and to the semifinals of the NJCAA Playoffs. 

At Tyler, he coached 19 junior college All-Americans, two conference MVPs, and one National Defensive Player of the Year.  

Before coaching at Tyler, Jacobson served as an assistant coach at Snow College for two seasons, where he held the position of Special Teams Coordinator and coached the defensive backs. With the Badgers, he coached three All-Americans and a National Defensive Player of the Year. 

He also spent two years as a defensive assistant at BYU. 

A native of Southlake, Texas, Jacobson began his college playing career at Texas Tech in 2013, where he played in 13 games as a freshman and was named to the Big 12 All-Bowl team at the Holiday Bowl. He then played three seasons at BYU from 2016 to 2018, and appeared in 37 games with the Cougars as a defensive back. He totaled 62 tackles with one interception in his career. 

He graduated from BYU in 2018 with a degree in Economics. He and his wife Beth are the parents of one daughter, Halle.
