Following that successful season, he signed as a professional soccer player, and then won the starting position at 18 years of age. A nine-year professional playing career was shortened by injuries, and although South Africa was isolated from the World Cup participation, he was fortunate to have played with, and against some of the great international players of that era. He was part of numerous championship teams and earned selection to All-star teams.
Sanders has coached soccer at all levels, from professional, college, down to local youth teams. He has enjoyed championship success as a coach. Equally important, however, is the work he has done in developing elite players and building dominant teams. He was an early catalyst in the development of the Wildcat soccer program when he coached the Weber State University Men’s Club team to three national titles in his four years as head coach. Sanders holds a USSF “B” coaching license.
Sanders and his wife, Anne, have four children: Kerryn, Hayley, Trent and Ella. They live in South Weber, Utah. He has a Master of Science Marketing degree, with sports marketing leadership experience with the Utah Jazz.
