Ron McCall earned First Team All-America honors for the Wildcats during his playing career, and was one of the first Weber State football players ever to be drafted professionally.
McCall, a native of Clearfield, Utah, was an outstanding defensive end for the Wildcats under Coach Sark Arslanian. In fact, McCall played for Arslanian at Dixie Junior College, where he earned second team All-America honors, before coming to Weber.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound McCall was a member of two of the top teams during his stay with the ’Cats. McCall earned All-Big Sky Conference honors in 1965 and 1966, and was Associated Press First Team All-American at defensive end in 1966.
McCall was selected to play in the 1966 East-West Shrine Game, where he earned outstanding defensive player honors. His teams went 8-1-0 and 6-3-0 during his career.
McCall was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the second round of the 1966 AFL draft.
