OGDEN, Utah -- Patience paid off for the Wildcats in a big way on Thursday as Teresa Holt's header broke a 0-0 tie to defeat Eastern Washington 1-0 in double overtime on Senior Day at Wildcat Soccer Field.

The 'Cats generated plenty of scoring chances throughout the match, but were unable to break through until only 1:33 remained in the fourth and final period. Weber State outshot the Eagles 35 to 12 on the day, but needed the clutch set-play goal to grab a much-needed three points.

WSU put 13 shots on-goal for the match, compared to five for the Eagles. During regulation play, the 'Cats out-shot their opponents 13-4 in the first half and 16-5 in the second period. In extra time, the Wildcats held a 6-3 edge. Lauren Parkhurst led the Wildcats with 10 shot attempts, while Shelli Gough was tops with four shots on-goal.

Despite being out-shot by a dramatic margin, the Eagles also generated some good chances offensively. EWU's best chances came in the first stanza. Midway through the period, Cyeeta Mott beat a charging Rebecca Ritchie out at the right edge of the box, but her centering pass was turned away by defender Ashtyn Webster, who had retreated into a nice position. Later, in the 36th minute, EWU's Abby Jensen fired a shot from around 25 yards out. The strike rang off the crossbar and was cleared by Ritchie.

In the 109th minute, WSU played a nice ball up to Natalie Blaylock, who turned the ball to the middle. Her shot at the goal was turned away by an Eagle defender for a corner kick. The subsequent play, taken by Shaylee Hyde went to the far post, where Holt was able to break free for the game-ending header.

Ritchie recorded five saves as the Wildcats recorded their fourth-straight shutout. The 108 minutes and 27 seconds of clean sheet play gives Ritchie and WSU a consecutive scoreless streak of 398 minutes and 27 seconds.

With the win, Weber State improves to 7-6-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the Big Sky, while Eastern Washington falls to 6-8 overall and 1-4 in conference play. The win also moves the Wildcats temporarily into first place in the Big Sky with 10 points, two ahead of Sacramento State. The Hornets are scheduled to play on Friday at Northern Colorado and would move back into first place with a win over the Bears.

The Wildcats will head out on the road as they are scheduled to face the University of Montana in Missoula on Sunday, Oct. 28.
