Tuomi Leads 'Cats to Win Over Vandals

The Weber State women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak by picking up a 56-48 win over Idaho Sunday afternoon in the consolation game of the Washington Husky Classic in Seattle. The Wildcats improve to 2-3 on the season and will return home for their next three games.
The game was tied at 25 at halftime and tied again at 31 with 15:32 to play when Weber State went on a 9-3 run over the next seven minutes and would never trail again. The Vandals got to within two points at 46-44 with 2:51 to play but the Wildcats ended the game with a 10-4 run to seal the win. WSU was 7-9 from the free throw line over the last 2:30.
Idaho had more rebounds and a better shooting percentage than Weber State, but a difference of the game came from the free throw line where WSU scored 24 of their 56 points. The ?Cats were 24-33 from the line with the Vandals shooting just 5-6 from the line. Weber State was 13-47 from the field for 28 percent.
Senior Sara Tuomi led WSU with 24 points, six rebounds, and five steals. She was 5-18 from the field and 11-12 from the free throw line. Tuomi also scored 13 points in Friday's loss to Arkansas State and was named to the Husky Classic All-Tournament Team.
Ahkiah Hunter had 11 points and was 6-7 from the line. The third senior, Tashina Taylor, scored nine points and grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
The ?Cats had just eight points off the bench with six of them coming from Ali Thorderson.
WSU will now play their next three games at home beginning this Thursday when they host Eastern Michigan at 7:00 p.m. at the Dee Events Center.
