Weber State Hosts Utah In Oquirrh Bucket Battle

Lobo Rout Wildcats 62-32 Sunday Afternoon In The Pit

Sunday's game in Albuquerque was "the pits" in more ways than one for the Weber State Wildcats in their game against the New Mexico Lobos in front of 13,345 fans on Bob King Court in The Pit.

The Lobo reeled off 15 unanswered points to begin the game and never looked back in a convincing 62-32 rout of the Wildcats. New Mexico's defense held the ?Cats to just 11-48 shooting for the game and just 5-25 in the first half building up a 34-12 half time lead.

J.R. GIDDENS led the way with 18 points and nine rebounds hitting 7-10 from the field. DANIEL FARIS added 10 and DARREN PRENTICE came off the bench to hit 3-3 from the three-point line scoring nine points.

For the first time this season, the Wildcats did not have a single player in double figure scoring. ARTURAS VALEIKA and JUAN PABLO SILVEIRA each scored eight points. BRODY VAN BROCKLIN was the leading rebounder with a career high five.

Weber State had been on a hot shooting streak as of late. The Wildcats came into Sunday's game having shot 55 percent from the floor in their last three outings and just over 50 percent from the three-point arc.

The 32 points is the second lowest single game scoring total in Weber State men's basketball history and marked just the fifth time in 1,298 games the Wildcats have failed to score 40 or more points in a game. It also marked the second time the Wildcats have scored less than 40 points in The Pit. In 1982-83 WSU lost to Princeton 67-39 in the opening round of the Lobo Invitational.

The lowest point total in school history actually resulted in a victory when the Wildcats defeated Northern Arizona 28-22 in Flagstaff during the 1979-80 season.

The win upped New Mexico's record to an impressive 11-2 while the Wildcats now fall to 4-7. Weber State plays its final non-conference game of the season and final game in the year 2007 when it hosts the University of San Francisco this coming Friday, December 28 beginning at 7:05 p.m. in the Dee Events Center. It is a rematch of a December 8 game this season at USF where the Don's nipped the Wildcats 67-65.
