OGDEN, Utah -- The Weber State women's basketball team fell to 3-4 on the season with a 63-48 loss to Drake University (5-2) at the Dee Events Center on Saturday afternoon.
"I thought we would bounce back with some toughness after Thursday night," said WSU head coach Carla Taylor. "But we actually played softer tonight and that's very disappointing."
Drake jumped out to an early lead with an 11-4 run to start the game, and stretched the lead to 32-18 at the half. In the second, the Bulldogs extended to a 20-point lead with ten minutes remaining. The 'Cats tried to claw back late, cutting the lead to 10 with two minutes left, but Drake hit eight-straight free throws down the stretch to ice the game.
Tonya Schnibbe led the Wildcats with 13 points and had four assists. Ali Thorderson scored nine points, while Caitlin Anderson, Sarah Conner and Caela Mohre each added eight. Anderson also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. Mohre's eight points set a career-high for the red-shirt freshman and came in only eight minutes of playing time.
Kristin Turk led all scorers with 21 points for Drake, while Lauren Dybing and Jordann Plummer each added 12. Kelsey Keizer chipped in with six points and matched Anderson's 12 boards.
"We need to find an identity for ourselves," said Taylor. "Right now, it's being established for us with the way that we are playing. As coaches, we need to go back to the drawing board and find the right combination to get us going."
