POCATELLO, Idaho -- The Weber State University men's tennis team improved to 2-5 on the season on Tuesday with a 6-1 win over Idaho State at Reed Gymnasium.

The Wildcats grabbed wins at the top two doubles matches to earn the early lead and then finished off their conference rivals with five singles wins.

Fabio Mancarella defeated Javier Royo 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, Nick Plum downed Alex Buceta 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 and Chris Williams beat Jeremy Atkin 6-4, 6-0 at No. 5 to give WSU three straight-set points. The Bengals were shorthanded on the afternoon and had to forfeit the No. 6 singles spot, as they did at the No. 3 doubles position.

While Henning Hipp fell 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Sascha Kiehne pulled out a tough three-set match against Danel Barrenecha. The sophomore from Germany fell behind early as Barrenecha took the first set 7-5. Kiehne rebounded in the final sets, winning 6-3 and 10-7.
