WSU Grabs Road Win at Utah State

LOGAN, Utah -- The Weber State men's tennis team picked up its second road win in as many days on Wednesday with a 5-2 win over Utah State.
The Wildcats earned the doubles point to open the match with wins at No. 1 and 3 singles. Sascha Kiehne and Fabio Mancarella defeated Jonas Tyden and Jakob Asplund 8-5 in the top spot, while Travis Covington and Spencer Marchant downed Matt Searle and Matt Braithwaite 8-2 at No. 3.
In singles play, the 'Cats extended to the win with points coming from Mancarella, Kiehne, Chris Williams and Covington. Mancarella defeated Oscar Ericsson 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, while Kiehne beat Fernando Gallegos 7-6, 6-1 at No. 3. Williams defeated Searle 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 and Covington downed Braithwaite 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6.
Henning Hipp (No. 1 singles) and Nick Plum (No. 4 singles) each had a rough day, dropping three-set matches. The pair also suffered a tough 8-6 loss at No. 2 doubles.
The Wildcats will open up the 2008 home schedule on Sunday, Feb. 17 as they take on the Air Force Academy at 11:00 a.m. The match will take place at the Ogden Athletic Club.
