Weber State senior Sariah Long finished 12th overall and just missed earning All-American honors in the 3,000 meters Saturday night at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Faytetteville, Arkansas.
The senior from Oceanside, California posted a time of 9:31.25 in the event to finish 12th overall. She was the ninth American finisher, just one spot away from earning All-American honors for the second time in her career. She was added to the race on Wednesday of this week after an athlete ahead of her scratched from the meet due to illness.
“Sariah ran a solid race and did a good job tonight,” said WSU distance coach Paul Pilkington. “It was a little hard for her to prepare this week because she didn't know she would be in the meet until Wednesday but she still performed well and ran a good race.”
Two weeks ago Long won the Big Sky Championships in the mile and 3,000 meters. Earlier this season she set the Weber State school record in the 3,000 meters. This was Long's first ever appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships. She earned All-American honors in the steeplechase at last year's NCAA Outdoor meet.
