Wildcats Grab Home Win Over Roadrunners

OGDEN, Utah -- The Weber State women's tennis team ended a four-match losing streak on Friday with a 5-2 win over Cal-State Bakersfield at the Ogden Athletic Club.
"This was a good win for us," said WSU head coach Jonas Ehrlin. "It was nice to be back at home and to get back in the win column. They (CS-Bakersfield) are a pretty good team, and they gave us some problems at times, but our girls played really well."
The Wildcats jumped out early, claiming all three doubles matches to earn the opening point. Inalise Pienaar and Ashley Schapper defeated Kati Lynott and Kaylee Graham 8-7 at No. 1, Keya Adamson and Gabriela Venditto defeated Ashley Thorneycroft and Sara Mijwel 8-2 at No. 2. At No. 3, Elsje Beneke and Kelli Lindley defeated Leslie Begley and Isabella Kasselstrand 8-6.
In singles, the Wildcats won at the No. 2, 3, 5 and 6 positions to finish off the Roadrunners. Pienaar beat Thorneycroft 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 and Schapper defeated Graham 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3.
At No. 5, Adamson came back from a 6-3 loss in the opening set to defeat Mijwel, dominating the final two sets 6-0 and 6-1. Kelli Lindley, meanwhile, cruised in the opening set 6-0 and fought to a 7-6 win in the second set to defeat Begley in the No. 6 spot.
WSU will be back in action on Saturday, as they face Dixie State College at 1:00 p.m. The match against the Rebels will also be held at the Ogden Athletic Club.
