Hipp Leads 'Cats at USU Fall Invitational

NORTH SALT LAKE, Utah -- The Weber State men's tennis team ran their record to .500 on the year at 6-6 Wednesday with a 7-0 sweep of Montana State-Billings at the Eagle Ridge Tennis Club.

The Wildcats rolled through both the doubles and singles on the day. In the doubles competition, the 'Cats won the three matches by scores of 8-1, 8-2 and 8-1.

In singles, Henning Hipp led the way with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Gabriel Diaz in the No. 1 position. Nick Plum defeated Luis Olivera 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2, while Travis Covington dominated Travis Lehman at No. 3 with a 6-1, 6-0 decision. At No. 4, Chris Williams put away Filip Alimpic 6-1, 6-1, and Spencer Marchant defeated James Caitlin 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5. In the sixth spot, Douglas Alves won in his first-ever collegiate singles match, defeating Stephen Gruener 6-2, 6-3.

Next up for the Wildcats will be a match against Cal-Poly in Provo, Utah on Thursday, Mar. 6. That match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
