Box Score

The Weber State volleyball team lost its home and Big Sky opener Thursday night, falling 3-2 to the Eastern Washington Eagles.  The loss snapped WSU's five-match winning streak and dropped the ?Cats to 8-4 overall on the season.

Eastern Washington won the match 25-22, 28-26, 18-25, 18-25, 15-12 to win their third straight match in Ogden.  In the second set the ?Cats held a 24-22 lead and had two-set points but the Eagles posted back-to-back kills to tie the set and went on to win.

Weber State was strong in both the third and fourth sets to set up the decisive fifth set.  WSU held a 12-11 lead in that set but the Eagles closed the match with four straight points to secure the victory.  It was Weber State's first five-set loss of the season.

“We certainly had our opportunities out there, especially in the second set,” said WSU head coach Al Givens.  “If we could have closed that one out it would have made a big difference.  We played with a lot of resolve to come back and fight on but we couldn't close it out when we needed to.  I give Eastern Washington a lot of credit.”

The Eagles led the Wildcats in kills 73-66, despite Weber State out hitting the Eagles .294-.268.  EWU also had 15 service errors but Weber State had just one ace during the match.

Junior Micah Folsom led the ?Cats with a season-high 21 digs and hit .333.  Brittney Bisaillon posted 17 kills and just two hitting errors for a hitting percentage of .536.  Junior Chelsea Bair had 11 kills and 16 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.

Amy Dunford had a career-high eight kills in the match and Caitlyn Anderson had 20 digs.

The Eagles were led by Hayley Hills who had 26 kills on the night.

Weber State will next host defending Big Sky champion Portland State Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the Swenson Gym.
