Cold Shooting Spell Continues in Loss to Bears

GREELEY, Colo. -- Another poor shooting performance cost the Weber State women's basketball team a loss in its Big Sky opener on Sunday afternoon as Northern Colorado defeated the Wildcats 66-53.
Weber State (5-8 overall; 0-1 Big Sky) hit only 17 of 61 shots to finish the night at 27.9 percent. It was the second time in the last three outings that the 'Cats have been under 28 percent and three-straight that they have finished under 33 percent.
WSU shot 33 percent in the opening half and led by two at 31-29 despite Northern Colorado (7-7; 1-1) hitting 42.9 percent of their attempts from the floor.
In the second half, Weber State hit just 7 of 31 attempts for a percentage of 22.6, while the Bears pulled away by hitting 12 of 23 shots (52.2 percent).
Whitley Cox led all scorers with 19 points on 8 of 14 shooting for Northern Colorado. Courtney Stoermer added 14 points on 6 of 9 shooting and Kate Kevorken chippe in with 10 points for the Bears.
Weber State was led by Caitlin Anderson, who scored 13 points, but hit just 4 of 15 attempts from the field. Ali Thorderson and Tonya Schnibbe combined to hit just 3 of 24 attempts from the floor, scoring eight and five points, respectively. Joey O'Neill and Michelle Roberson each hit 3 of 5 shots and scored eight points. O'Neill pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, while Roberson hauled in seven boards.
The Wildcats will play their next two games at home as they look to end their three-game slide. WSU will face Portland State on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 7:00 p.m. and Eastern Washington on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 2:00 p.m.
