'Cats Down Youngstown State for Third Place at UTEP Tourney

EL PASO, Tex. -- The Weber State women's basketball team used a 70-51 win over Youngstown State on Saturday night to earn third place at the UTEP Thanksgiving Classic at the Don Haskins Center.
The Penguins took an early five-point lead, but the Wildcats rallied to take the lead at 10-9 with 10:51 remaining in the first half. From there, Weber State would never trail.
Youngstown was as close as two points at the 19:49 mark of the second half, but the Wildcats used a 20-7 run over the next six minutes to push the lead to 15.
Caitlin Anderson led all players with 18 points and 11 rebounds. The junior forward hit 8 of 11 shots from the floor and added two assists, a steal and a blocked shot.
Abby Thorderson, who led WSU with a career-high 14 points in the Wildcats' loss to UTEP in the tournament's opening game, received a starting nod for the first time this year and responded with another impressive game. Thorderson scored 13 points on 5 of 9 shooting, including 3 of 5 from behind the arc. She also added four rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot. Abby was named to the All-Tournament team for her performance in the two games.
Abby's older sister Ali Thorderson gave the Wildcats three players in double figures, hitting a pair of treys on her way to 10 points. Ali also added six rebounds and six assists.
Tonya Schnibbe scored a season-low two points, but dished out a game-high eight assists.
Macey Nortey led Youngstown State with 15 points, while Rachel Manuel added 11 points.
The Wildcats improved to 3-3 with the win, while the Penguins fall to 0-6 on the season. Weber State will next take on the University of Utah in Salt Lake City on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
