'Cats Down UC Riverside 5-2

OGDEN, Utah -- The Weber State men's tennis team ended a two-match losing streak on Sunday with a 5-2 win over UC Riverside at the Ogden Athletic Club.
The Wilddcats swept the doubles matches to gain the early advantage. Sascha Kiehne and Simon Unger defeated Quoc Doan and Felix Macherez 8-2 at No. 1, Henning Hipp and Travis Covington downed Gorjan Kovacevic and John Park 8-6 at No. 2 and Chris Williams and Spencer Marchant cruised to an 8-1 win over Rainier Matias and Sean Peterson at No. 3.
In singles play, UCR managed to win only at the No. 4 and 5 spots, while the Wildcats nailed down the match win with four straight-sets victories. Kiehne took down Macherez 6-3, 7-6 at No. 1, Unger bested Kovacevic 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 and Henning Hipp defeated Park 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3. At the end of the Wildcat lineup, Marchant defeated Matias 7-5, 6-2.
The Wildcats will have 16 days off before resuming play with a rematch against Utah State in Ogden on March 24. The Aggies defeated the Wildcats 5-2 back on Feb. 27 in Logan.
