'Cats Swept by 10th Ranked Stanford

The Weber State volleyball team dropped its sixth-straight match falling 3-0 to tenth-ranked Stanford late Friday night in Hawaii. The Cardinal beat the 'Cats 25-16, 25-20, 25-16 in the second day of the Honolulu Advertiser Volleyball Challenge, hosted by the University of Hawaii.
It marked the second straight day the 'Cats lost to a team ranked in the top ten in the nation, after falling 3-0 to sixth-ranked Hawaii on Thursday night.
There were ten ties and four lead changes in the first set before Stanford finished it off. With the match tied a 14-14, the Cardinal went on a 8-1 run to close out that set.
In the third set Stanford hit .484 with 17 kills and just two errors, while Weber State hit. .080 with seven kills and five errors.
Stanford never trailed in the second set, even though the Wildcats scored 20 points in the set.
Stanford out hit Weber State .309 to .083 and finished with 11 more kills and eight more blocks than the Wildcats. WSU also had ten service errors. The Cardinal closed out the match on a 6-2 run to secure the win, improving to 5-2 on the season.
Weber State was led by senior Jenna Leggat who finished with 11 kills on the night. Chelsea Bair added seven and freshman Emily Jones posted a career-high with six kills. Caitlyn Anderson returned to the libero position and led the 'Cats with nine digs.
The Wildcats have now lost six straight and have been swept 3-0 in five of their last six matches.
Weber State will face one more match at the tournament in Hawaii. Saturday night the Wildcats will take on UTSA at 9:00 p.m. Mountain time before returning home. WSU will open Big Sky Conference action next weekend.
