WSU Drops Season Opener to BYU

PROVO, Utah -- The Weber State men's tennis team dropped its season opener on Friday, in a 7-0 defeat at the hands of Brigham Young University.
The Wildcats got a win at No. 2 doubles, as Henning Hipp and Spencer Marchant battled to an 8-6 win over Evan Urbina and Roman Warias, but the Cougars won the other two spots to earn the doubles point.
The Wildcats were battling injuries as well against BYU. Sascha Kiehne fought through a groin injury to drop a first-set tiebreak en route to a 7-6, 6-4 loss to Cassidy Mears. Marchant also was playing hurt, helping earn the Wildcats lone win on the day despite having injured ribs.
The Wildcats will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 20 as they face Oregon in Boise, Idaho.
