Damian Lillard's driving lay up with two seconds left in the third overtime period, lifted Weber State to a 95-93 win Saturday night before 2,923 inside Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.  The shot came after ISU's Amorrow Morgan missed the second of two free throws with 10 seconds left.
“I've been in a lot of weird games in my coaching career, but this one is probably the craziest one I've been through.” said WSU head coach Randy Rahe.
The Wildcats started off looking like it would blow the Bengals out of the water going on a 9-0 run in the first four minutes of the game. They built it up to 13 with 5:48 left going up 24-11 on two free throws by Steve Panos.
ISU's zone defense flustered the Wildcats and the Bengals closed out the half with a 11-5 scoring run making it 29-22 for Weber State. WSU was just 3-15 from the three-point arc in the half but forced nine turnovers by the Bengals and held them to 7-22 shooting.
WSU's shooting frustrations continued at the beginning of the second half and ISU took advantage, rallying back to take a 36-35 lead with 14:01 left on a lay up by Amorrow Morgan,
Morgan's three-pointer at 9:45 put the Bengals up by four at 47-43 but a three-pointer by Damian Lillard,  a tip-in from Darin Mahoney, and two free throws by Kyle Bullinger put the Wildcats back on top by three.
The Wildcats shook the Bengals to take a 60-52 lead with 4:26 left on two free throws from Panos and it appeared the 'Cats had the game in control.
ISU, however, did not quit and put together a furious 10-2 scoring run, capped by a jumper by Amorrow Morgan with 1:32 left. That is when the craziness of the game began.
Damian Lillard missed a lay up.  ISU got the rebound only to see Morgan miss a driving jumper with 1:07 left. Lillard then turned the ball over with 42 seconds left,  giving ISU a chance for the win.
Morgan was called for an offensive foul with 25 seconds left, so the Wildcats had the ball and a chance for the win but Kyle Bullinger's jumper at the buzzer bounced out.
In the first overtime, the Wildcats led the entire stanza which began with a three-pointer by Damian Lillard. ISU tied the game at 70-70 on a three from Austin Kilpatrick with 2:14 left.  Weber State led 74-71 on a tip-in from Franklin Session with 1:14 left.  ISU's Broderick Gilchrist drove to the basket for a score with 48 seconds left.  Weber State worked the ball and shot clock down but Damian Lillard's three-pointer with 11 seconds bounced out and Amorrow Morgan got the board. After a time out the Bengals got the ball into the hands of Broderick Gilchrist who made a move to the basket and was fouled by Darn Mahoney with 00:00.7 left on the clock. Gilchrist made the first one, but the missed the second after a WSU timeout and game went into a second overtime period.
In the second OT, WSU led 78-76 with 3:26 left. ISU tied the game on a jumper from Sherrod Baldwin at 3:07,then the Bengals came up with a big steal and Morgan was fouled. Morrow, who ended up with 30 points in the game, missed the first free throw but made the second to give the Bengals a 79-78 lead.  Franklin Session put the 'Cats back up 80-79 on a back door lay up with 2:15 left.  Morgan was again fouled, and again he made one-of-two and the game was tied 80-80 at 2:07.
The Bengals had a chance to take a three-point lead with 1:27 left on a shot by Austin Kilpatrick but it missed and Nick Hansen got the rebound and was fouled. Hansen, who was just 1-11 from the field in the game, made both free throws.  Amorrow Morgan atoned for his missed free throws with a game-tying jumper with 1:02 left.  Weber State worked the clock down to 31 seconds when Lillard missed a three-pointer but the ball went out of bounds off an ISU player giving the Wildcats the final shot.  Lillard got the ball on the wing with three seconds left and let the ball fly with one second left, but it bounced off the rim sending the game into a third overtime stanza.
Like they did in the first two overtime periods, the Wildcats controlled the temp and took a couple of brief four point leads, the last one coming with 2:44 left on two free throws from Kyle Bullinger. With the game tied at 92-92, Franklin Session was fouled with 41 seconds left. Session made the first one but missed the second attempt which caromed off an ISU player giving WSU the ball.  The Wildcats again worked the shot clock down and Nick Hansen took a three with 12 seconds left which missed and Amorrow Morgan got the rebound and was fouled by Session, his fifth, and Morgan went to the line for a chance to put the Bengals up by one with 10 seconds left. Morgan made the first but missed the second. Hansen got the rebound and called time out.
The Wildcats went to their leading scorer, Damian Lillard, on the final play. ISU played him for a jumper but Lillard lowered his head and drove the basket, kissing of the glass with 00:00.3 on the clock. The officials added .02 giving ISU a last chance, but Trevor Morris got a hand on the ball as it was thrown in bounds and the Wildcats came away with the victory..
The two teams combined for 64 points in the overtime periods with the Wildcats out scoring the Bengals 33-31.  The Wildcats ended the game shooting just 30-76 (.395) from the field including a dismal 7–35 (.200) from the three-point arc but made 28-38 (.737) from the free throw line and out rebounded the Bengals 47-41. Idaho State ended up hitting 32-64 (.500) from the field, 10-21 on three-point shots, but the Bengals managed just
9-35 (.543) from the free throw line.
Amorrow Morgan led all scorers with 30 points, hitting 10-19 from the field and 8–12 at the line. Broderick Gilchrist had 25 points including 4-8 from the three-point line. Austin Kilpatrick came off the bench to score 12 and tied teammate Demetrius Monroe with nine rebounds.
Damian Lillard, the leading scorer in the Big Sky Conference, scored 28 points, one of three Wildcats to score 20 or more in the game. Lillard played 50 of the 55 minutes played in the game. Franklin Session scored a career high 22 points and had nine rebounds and four assists. Steve Panos had 21 points before fouling out. Panos was 6-10 from the field and an impressive 9-10 from the line. Kyle Bullinger added 13.
Idaho State drops to 4-14 overall and 1-5 in Big Sky play. Weber State ups its record to 11-7 overall and 5-1 in Big Sky play and leads Northern Colorado by one game for the first place spot.
Weber State now returns home for three straight home games, two of them coming next Friday (Jan, 22) and Saturday (Jan. 23) against Portland State and Eastern Washington.
