     Franklin Session scored a career high 24 points and dished out six assists in 38 minutes, leading Weber State to an 86-83 Big Sky Conference win over Portland State on Friday, January 22 at the Dee Events Center in Ogden, Utah.
     The game pitted the top two scoring teams in the Big Sky Conference and neither team disappointed.
     The Wildcats led 43-33 at halftime after hitting 18-30 (.600) shots from the field including 7-13 from behind the arc. Session scored nine, and Lindsey Hughey came off the
bench to score nine for the Wildcats. PSU's Julius Thomas was 5-6 from the field in the first half. Three of his five made shots were slam dunks and he scored 11 points.
     Weber State built an 11-point lead at 50-39 with 15:44 left in the second half. The Vikings then went on an 8-2 scoring run, capped by a jumper from Melvin Jones, making it 52-50 for the Wildcats.
     Weber State regained its composure and raced back out to a couple of nine point leads  with less than six minutes left. At the 3:21 mark, Franklin Session's lay up put the 'Cats up by 11 at 74-63 and it appeared the 'Cats would cruise in for the win.
     The Vikings came storming back over the next two minutes with a 13–4 scoring run, once again capped by Melvin Jones who drained a 25-footer from the left angle closing the gap at 78-76.
     PSU immediately fouled Session on the inbounds pass. He made one of two free throws putting the Wildcats up by three at 79-76. Jones then missed a lay up which was rebounded by Trevor Morris, He was fouled by Dominic Waters with 46 seconds on the clock. Morris calmly sank both shots giving WSU a five-point lead at 81-76.
     The Vikings caught WSU napping on the inbounds play and Waters raced to the hoop for an easy basket just three seconds later.
     WSU got the ball into Damian Lillard against PSU's press. He was fouled by Phil Nelson and the 86 percent free throw shooter made both,  pushing the lead back up to five at 83-78.     Again the Vikings pushed the ball up quickly and Waters drained a long three with 38 seconds left making it an 83-81 game.
     On the inbounds pass, Trevor Morris was fouled by Jamie Jones with 19 seconds left. Morris missed the first shot but made the second putting WSU up three at 84-81.
     Melvin Jones quickly countered with a lay up just four seconds later making it 84-83.
Lindsey Hughey was fouled Jamie Jones with 14 seconds left. He made both shots making it a three-point game at 86-83.
     The Viking missed two chances to tie the game in the final nine seconds but three-point shot attempts by Dominic Waters and Melvin Jones were off the mark and the Wildcats escaped with the win.
     Dominic Waters scored 18 of his 21 points in the second half as the Vikings out scored the Wildcats 50-43 in the stanza. Phil Nelson had 15 points, as did Julius Thomas, and Jamie Jones scored 14 points and had a game high 13 rebounds.
     Session's 24 points led all scorers. The 6-3 junior was 9-11 from the field and 4-6 at the line. Damian Lillard scored 15 points, Lindsey Hughey had 13 and Steve Panos, 10 for the Wildcats who are now 7-0 this season when four or more players score in double figures.
     Portland State is now 8-11 overall and 3-4 in Big Sky Conference play. The Vikings move on to face Idaho State in Pocatello tomorrow night.  The Wildcats are now 12-7 overall and 6-1 in Big Sky play and stay a half-game ahead of Northern Colorado (6-2) in the Big Sky standings.  The Wildcats will host Eastern Washington University tomorrow (Jan. 23) at 7:05 p.m. (MST) inside the Dee Events Center in Ogden, Utah.
