Connecting on a season-high four goals, the Weber State University women's soccer team steamrolled past longtime rival Montana, dispatching the Grizzlies 4-0 at South Campus Stadium.
The result was one of Weber State's largest margins of victory ever and is the most decisive Wildcats' win in the long-standing rivalry series with Montana.
Junior central midfielder Roxy Tebbs, putting on one of strongest performances in a Purple and White uniform, helped get things rolling in the first half with crisp passing and active movement. Tebbs ended up on the receiving end of the first goal of the match in the 22nd minute after freshman forward Felicia Sortor drove into the deep right corner and dropped it across the goalmouth to Tebbs .
"It was nice to get a solid win after working so hard all preseason," Tebbs said. "We're not done; we're going to keep working for more positive results."
The opening 15 minutes of the match were anything but great for the Wildcats, who struggled to match the Grizzlies early energy level. The final 70 minutes of the match, however, fully belonged to Weber State.
The Wildcats outshot the Grizzlies 11-6 in the second half, with most of those Montana shots coming after Weber State had opened up the four-goal lead.
Baddley played a hand in all three second half goals, dishing the ball to freshman midfielder Kersey Davis who scored after a defensive miscue by the Montana goalkeeper left Davis an empty net to shoot at in the 54th minute.
Baddley scored her fourth goal of the season just two minutes later, chipping in a shot from 12 yards out after senior outside defender Alyssa Toomey played the ball through to her.
Toomey again dished the ball to Baddley in the 68th minute, and Baddley finished the ball hitting a right-to-left crossing shot from 15 yards out to make it 4-0.
The Wildcats continued to shred the Grizzlies' defense over the final minutes of the match with several Weber State players coming up with quality shots.
Weber State improved to 1-1-1 (4 points) in Big Sky Conference action (2-11-1 overall) and vaulted itself back into the race for a postseason berth.
The Wildcats will remain on the road through the weekend and will face Eastern Washington at 1 p.m. on Sunday in another critical road match as the Big Sky race nears its mid-point.
