CHENEY, Wash. -- The Weber State soccer team suffered a setback in its race for the Big Sky Conference playoffs on Sunday, as Eastern Washington took a 2-1 win at the EWU Sports and Recreation Center.
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead as Brittany Sparks one-touched home a free kick from Whitney Brannan in the 8th minute.
Roxy Tebbs equalized for the Wildcats in the 26th minute. The junior midfielder took a short pass from Jessie Baddley in the box, turned, and fired a shot to the upper corner for her second tally in-as-many matches.
Five minutes into the second half, Melanie Kitsman took a free kick for the Eagles from 45 yards out. The strike slipped by WSU goalkeeper Ryann Waldman for Kitsman's first goal of the season and the eventual game-winner.
Weber State out-shot the Eagles 17 to 11 overall, but took only a 9 to 8 advantage in shots on-goal. Jamie Walker recorded eight saves to earn the win in goal for Eastern Washington, while Waldman posted five saves for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats fell to 2-13-1 overall and 1-2-1 with the loss, while Eastern Washington improved to 2-11-1 overall and 2-2-0 in league play.
