OGDEN, Utah -- The Weber State women's soccer team closed out the 2010 season in fine fashion on Friday with a 2-0 win over conference-rival Idaho State at Wildcat Soccer Field.
The 'Cats jumped on the Bengals early, as Ari Wood tallied in the seventh minute. Jessie Baddley initiated the play with a cross from the right wing, which was parried by ISU goalkeeper Carly Hutchings. The deflection remained in the middle of the box, where Wood finished with a shot from six yards to the left post.
WSU continued to pressure throughout the first half, earning a 10-4 edge in shots over the first 45 minutes. The 'Cats nearly put another goal away in the 16th minute, when Kersey Davis fired a ball from 22 yards that deflected off the crossbar.
The Wildcats carried their form in the second half as well, outshooting the Bengals 9-3 in the period for a 19-7 edge overall and 9-3 in shots on-goal for the match.
Nicole Moore added an insurance goal for Weber State in the 66th minute, getting behind the Bengal defense on a long ball from Roxy Tebbs. Moore took the pass in stride and chipped over Bailey Williams, who entered the game at halftime in place of Hutchings.
The Wildcats finish the season at 3-15-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the Big Sky Conference. Idaho State ends the year 6-11-2 overall and 1-5-1 in the conference. The match was Senior Day for the Wildcats and marked the end of Alyssa Toomey's career. Toomey started all 37 matches for the Wildcats, anchoring the WSU defense over the last two years after transferring from the University of Utah.
