'Cats Grab Win Over Bengals

POCATELLO, Idaho -- Weber State picked up its second win of the season on Tuesday in a non-conference match against Idaho State. The Wildcats (2-4) won the doubles point and the top four singles matches to earn the victory over the Bengals (0-3).

Simon Unger and Sascha Kiehne paired up to defeat Javier Royo and Danel Barrenechea 8-3 in the top doubles spot, while Henning Hipp and Spencer Marchant defeated Dakota and Colton Pate 8-4 in the No. 2 match to give WSU the early lead.

In singles, the Wildcats won each of the top four matches in straight-sets, while dropping a pair of three-setters at the No. 5 and 6 spots.

Hipp defeated Barrenechea at No. 2 and Kiehne downed Dakota Pate at No. 3, each by identical 6-4, 6-1 scores to put the Wildcats within a point of the match win.

Marchant soon gave Weber State the deciding point with another 6-4, 6-1 win. Marchant's win came in the No. 4 spot over Dan Buckingham.

At No. 1, Unger held off Royo 7-5, 6-4 for WSU's final point of the day.
