Doubles Play Leads WSU to Win Over North Dakota

OGDEN, Utah -- The Weber State women's tennis team swept all three doubles matches for the deciding point in a 4-3 win over North Dakota on Sunday at the Ogden Athletic Club.
The Wildcats dominated the doubles competition to earn the first point of the day. Elsje Beneke and Greyce Farias defeated Erin Kappers and Katie Callison 8-3 in the No. 1 match. Caroline Drugge and Brittiny Moore downed Hallie Welk and Chelsey Galipeau 8-2 at No. 2, while sisters Keya Jenkins and Kassia Adamson matched with an 8-2 win over Megan Sween and Emma Larson at No. 3.
The point proved to be crucial as the Wildcats and Sioux split the six singles matches. Callison got past Jenkins 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1, Kappers defeated Beneke 3-6, 6-4, 11-9 at No. 3 and Sween beat Markay Mullen 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 6 match. The Wildcats cruised to wins in the other three matches, scoring identical 6-1, 6-1 straight-set wins. Farias defeated Welk at No. 2, Moore dispatched Galipeau at No. 4 and Drugge downed Larson at No. 5.
The Wildcats improved to 2-5 on
the season with the win, while North Dakota fell to 2-6 overall.
