ANTHONY JOHNSON scored 18 points, which included a 12-14 performance at the line, and RYAN STAUDACHER  nailed five three pointers, leading the Montana Grizzlies to a 75-61 win over league-leading Weber State, Friday night in Missoula.
The win by Montana snapped a six-game losing streak to the Wildcats, dating back to the 2006-07 season and avenged a 64-56 loss to the Wildcats back on January 2 in Ogden.
The Grizzlies hit 24-47 shots from the field and were 21-28 from the line. They out rebounded the Wildcats 38-27.
“Montana was the more aggressive team, they played hard from start to finish and deserved to win.” said WSU head coach Randy Rahe.
The Grizzlies never trailed in the game and eventually built up an 11-point half time lead at 37-26.  They kept the momentum going out of the locker room and pushed the lead up to 17 at 60-43 with 10:59 remaining.
The Wildcats then went to work and put together an 9-0 scoring run on a three-pointer by LINDSEY HUGHEY, two lay up from FRANKLIN SESSION and a jumper by DARIN MAHONEY at the 7:28 mark to make it a 60-52 game.
Montana answered with a 10-0 run over the next three minutes with JOHNSON making five of six free throws and ending with a lay up. Sandwiched in between was a long three-pointer by STAUDACHER, which closed the door on the Wildcats.
DAMIAN LILLARD, the Big Sky's leading scorer, dropped in 24 points on 8-17 shooting from the field, 4-7 from the three-point arc. SESSION had 12 points and 10 rebounds producing his fourth “double/double” of the season. LINDSEY HUGHEY came off the bench to score 12.
Weber State is now 14-8 overall and 8-2 in Big Sky Conference play. The Wildcats now hold a one-game lead over Northern Colorado (7-3) in the standings.  Montana moves to 16-7 overall and 7-4 in league play.
The Wildcats now move south for a 7:05 p.m. tip-off tomorrow (Saturday) in Bozeman, Montana against Montana State. The Bobcats were a 63-60 winner over Idaho State on Friday night in Bozeman.  ISU plays at Montana on Saturday night.
