CHENEY, Wash. -- Eastern Washington ended a four-match winning streak by the Wildcats with a 5-2 win over the Weber State men's tennis team on Friday afternoon.
The Eagles won three tight doubles matches to take the doubles point and the early lead. EWU won 8-6 at the No. 1 and 2 positions and went 9-7 at No. 3.
In singles, the Wildcats came up two matches shy of the four needed to pull of the come-from-behind win. Simon Unger and Sascha Kiehne were the lone Wildcats to earn wins.
Unger continued his stellar singles play with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Stefan Simikic in the top match to earn his fifth-straight victory. Kiehne also won his fifth-consecutive singles match with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Fernando Mussolini in the No. 3 spot.
The loss drops the Wildcats to 8-11 overall and 5-2 in Big Sky play. Weber State also missed out on a chance to tie Sacramento State for first place in the conference standings. The Eagles improved to 6-11 and 3-2 in conference play with the win.
The Wildcats also played Idaho on the trip and dropped a 6-1 decision in non-conference action.
