AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Lady Luck finally shined on the Wildcats.

Junior midfielder Lindsay Ortgiesen scored in the 8th minute and freshman goalkeeper Ryann Waldman made a career-high tying 12 saves as the Weber State University women's soccer team captured its first win of the season, downing the Air Force Academy 1-0 on Friday night at Cadet Soccer Stadium.

The win is Weber State's first of the 2010 season and snapped a 12-match overall losing streak dating back to a road win over Sacramento State in 2009.

"It's been a long time coming," Weber State coach Tim Crompton said. "It's nice to get a win against a Mountain West Conference team on the road."

Air Force held a slim 9-7 lead in shots at halftime, but controlled the ball in front of the Weber State net in the second half by outshooting the Wildcats 11-2 in the half. Waldman made seven second-half saves to preserve the shutout and give Weber State the victory.

Ortgiesen's game-winner came from 35 yards out on a well-struck volley shot that curled to the top left corner of the goal. It was unassisted.

Weber State had seven corner kicks, including six in the first half. Ortgiesen was one of three Wildcats to attempt multiple shots, with junior forward Jessie Baddley attempting two and junior forward Kylie Johnson attempting three coming on as a reserve.

Weber State improved to 1-9-0 overall, while Air Force dropped to 6-4-1.

The Wildcats remain in Colorado through Sunday when they face UNLV at 1 p.m. in the final match of the Falcon Invitational.
