Wildcats Vandalized in Oregon

PORTLAND, Oregon -- The Wildcats fell to the University of Idaho Vandals 5-1 on Sunday, wrapping up their three match weekend in Portland.
In doubles action the Wildcats lost the point by a close margin for a third straight match. Landon Barlow and Dave Hintze fell to Jose Bendeck and Lachlan Reed 9-8 (7-6) in a tiebreak at number two. Simon Unger and Oliver Good fell 8-6 to Marius Cirstea and Alex Joitoiu.
In singles Simon Unger got the Wildcats their lone point with a straight sets win over Cirstea who is ranked 56th in the nation. Unger took the first set 6-3 and then came back in the second with another 6-3 win.
The Vandals won four of the remaining five singles matches in straight sets. Landon Barlow and Ciao Poitena each lost tiebreaks in the first set. Poitena was up 2-1 in the second set when the match was called.
The Wildcats fell to 0-6 with the loss while Idaho improved to 4-1. Weber State will open the 2011 home schedule this Friday at 9:00 AM at the Ogden Athletic Club as they take on Big Sky pre-season favorite Sacramento State.
