'Cats Knocks Down Bengals 39-12 for Homecoming Win

OGDEN, Utah -- Weber State rallied back after a slow start to knock down Big Sky rival Idaho State 39-12 in a Homecoming win at Stewart Stadium Saturday.  With the win the 'Cats improve to 3-1 in Big Sky action. 

The Bengals scored on their first possession, culminating a 98-yard drive with a one-yard rush.  

On the next ISU possession Caldwell Taylor forced an Idaho State sack to make it a 6-2 Bengal lead after the first quarter.  

Weber State got going in the second quarter when Mike Hoke found Shaydon Kehano for a 56-yard touchdown pass.  The 'Cats ended the second quarter with two field goals from Shaun McClain to take a 15-6 lead at halftime. 

Weber State broke the game open in the third quarter with three touchdowns.  Hoke found Kehano again for an 83-yard touchdown pass, which ranks as the eighth longest pass play in WSU history.  Hoke also found Tyrell Francisco for a seven-yard pass and Barrinton Collins for an 18 yard TD.  

A Shaun McClain field goal in the fourth quarter clinched Weber State's ninth straight win over Idaho State and their 13th straight win in Ogden.  

Hoke finished the day 7-12 passing for 200 yards and four touchdowns.  He did throw his first interception in two years, snapping a streak of 196 consecutive passes without a touchdown, which was the tops in the country.  Four of Hoke's seven completions ended in touchdowns.  

Kehano had three catches for 157 yards and two touchdowns.  Tanner Hinds and Josh Booker each totaled 80 yards rushing as the 'Cats combined for 308 yards rushing.  

Weber State ended up with 508 yards of total offense, compared to just 283 for the Bengals. 

On the defensive side Anthony Morales finished with a career-high 14 tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss.  Nick Webb had 12 tackles and Tony Epperson finished with 11.  

Sophomore Trevor Pletcher tied a WSU school record with four sacks in the game and finished with five tackles.  He also blocked a punt in the game.  

The Homecoming crowd drew 11,297 fans, the largest crowd in six years.  

The Wildcats improve to 3-3 overall and will step out of Big Sky play next week to take host Southern Utah next Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at Stewart Stadium.
