Shooting just 18-of-49 (36.7 percent) from the field, the Weber State University women's basketball team fell 68-60 to Portland State in Big Sky Conference action on Thursday night at the Peter W. Stott Center.
Senior forward Caitlin Anderson and sophomore forward Amanda Hughes each scored 14 points to lead Weber State. Anderson converted 9-of-10 free throws and a last-second 3-pointer, while Hughes hit 4-of-9 shots from the field and was 6-of-6 at the free throw line.
Sophomore guard Megan Patterson added 10 points and two steals for Weber State.
Weber State was down to nine players already when starting freshman point guard Justine Johnson suffered a concussion during practice on Wednesday, forcing junior guard Abby Palmer into action as the team's starting point guard.
Junior center Mikell Woodfield and sophomore forward Mariah Metoyer each added eight points for Weber State.
The Wildcats never led in the game, but never let the Vikings pull away. Weber State trailed by just three points midway through the second half, but couldn't get closer and Portland State was able to score a couple of late transition baskets to open up a 13-point lead with 2:19 to play.
Weber State (1-10 Big Sky, 5-18 overall) remains on the road through Saturday when it will face Eastern Washington at 3 p.m. at Reese Court in Cheney, Wash.
