Wildcats Declaw Bengals, 63-39, in Big Sky Conference Action

Lindsey Hughey, a 6-3 senior guard, scored 18 points, grabbed a career high 15 rebounds and had six steals, leading Weber State to a 63-39 victory over arch-rival Idaho State on the road Tuesday night in Pocatello, Idaho.
It marked the first time since the 1985-86 season that the Wildcats have held an opponent under 40 points in a game, (45-39 win at home over Boise State). It is only the fifth time in WSU men's basketball history that feat has been accomplished.

The Wildcats led 25-15 at half time, holding the Bengals to just 5-24 (.208) shooting overall and 2-11 from the arc. WSU didn't shoot much better, making 9-27 (.333) from the field and just 2-10 from the arc. Hughey scored 11 of his 18 points in that first half and had nine of his 15 rebounds.
Weber State began the second half with a 17-2 scoring run which ended with a three-pointer from Hughey at the 12:49 mark. The 'Cats forged their largest lead of the game, 61-32, with 4:47 remaining.
Kyle Bullinger had 17 points and six rebounds and Scott Bamforth added 11 points hitting 2-4 from beyond the arc. Broderick Gilchrest and Kenny McGowen each had 11 points to lead the Bengals.
Idaho State drops to 9-18 overall and 4-10 in Big Sky play. The Bengals do not play again until next Monday when they host Northern Colorado. They end the season on March 2 at Montana State. ISU is still in the hunt for the fifth or sixth spots in the Big Sky Conference Post-Season Tournament.
Weber State raises its record to 16-10 overall and 10-4 in Big Sky play. The win guarantees the Wildcats of a winning season, placing no worse than third in regular season play and gives them 10 Conference wins for a fifth straight year under Coach Randy Rahe.
The Wildcats resume play, this coming Saturday, February 26 facing Sacramento State on the road. WSU closes out league play on Wednesday, March 2 at home vs. Eastern Washington.
