TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Weber State women's softball team dropped a pair of games on Friday as they continued play at the Diamond Devil Invitational at Farrington Stadium. The Wildcats suffered a one-hit shutout in the day's opener, losing to Virginia Tech 8-0, and then returned in the afternoon to fall 7-2 to Creighton University.

Virginia Tech's Kenzie Roark threatened to issue Weber State its second perfect game against this season, allowing no runners until Lyndsey Minnich broke through with a single to lead off the fifth inning. Meanwhile, the Hokie offense was in full gear, scoring eight runs over the first three innings to run-rule the Wildcats after five frames.

In Weber State's second outing of the day, the Wildcats trailed by only a 1-0 margin after four innings, but a five-run top of the fifth inning broke the game open for Creighton. A pair of WSU errors set up the Bluejays in their big inning, putting two runners on with no outs. Creighton's Amy Baker and Brittnie Kreiser made the mistakes pay, hitting back-to-back home runs for a quick four runs. Danai Martin added the fifth run on a two-out triple to drive home Ellen Homan.

The Wildcats came back to score a pair of runs in their half of the fifth inning to attempt to get back in the contest. Brooke Silva drew a leadoff walk and Brandi Christopher hit her first home run as a Wildcat to cut the lead to 6-2.

Creighton put the game away in the sixth, as Baker homered for the second-straight at-bat.

Erika James went 2-for-3 against the Bluejays, after having her three-game hitting streak come to an end against Virginia Tech. The junior outfielder was the lone Wildcat to record more than a single hit on the day.

Weber State will wrap up the Diamond Devil Invitational on Saturday, with games against Florida-Gulf Coast and Arizona State.
