EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Oregon (20-4) took both games of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, defeating Weber State (3-13) 6-1 and 6-2 at Howe Field.
Jessica Moore tossed a no-hitter for the 15th-ranked Ducks in the opener, striking out 10, and Christie Nieto launched a three-run homer in the second inning for all the offense her team would need. Three other Oregon players added home runs in the game.
Erika James scored the lone run for WSU, reaching base on a hit-by-pitch, stealing second and then scoring on a passed ball after advancing to third on a sacrifice.
In the nightcap, the Ducks got homers from Kelsey and Lindsey Chambers and Kaitlin Vitek, while Brittany Rumfelt and Mikayla Endicott combined for a two-hitter.
Britinie Hardine took Rumfelt deep in the fifth inning for the first Wildcat run, and Lyndsey Minnich added a solo shot in the seventh, as both WSU hits on the day came on home runs.
The Wildcats will face Oregon State in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon to wrap up a quick four-game road swing to the Pacific Northwest. The Wildcats will open up the 2011 home schedule on Tuesday, March 22 with a doubleheader against Utah State, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
