OREM, Utah -- The Weber State University women's soccer team captured its first victory of the season on Tuesday night.

Commanding play for a sizable majority of the match, the Wildcats topped in-state rival Utah Valley by a 1-0 count on a rifling right-to-left shot by senior forward Jessie Baddley at Clyde Field.

"Our goal is to get better every game," Weber State coach Tim Crompton said. "I thought tonight we were better than we were on Friday.

"I think as a group we are very committed to playing good defensively."

Weber State (1-1-0) launched a season-high 24 shots, including eight by Baddley.

Senior midfielder Emily Freshman had four shots, while sophomore forward Felicia Sortor and senior forward Victoria Anderson each had three.

Anderson had the primary assist on Baddley's game-winner, slotting the ball after a pass from sophomore midfielder Alyssa Amano.

Senior goalkeeper Kirsten Anderson earned her first career shutout, making seven saves including an tough stop on a deep Utah Valley free kick.

WSU held a 8-6 advantage in shots in the first half, but got its offense untracked with 16 attempts after the break.

The Wildcats improved to 3-0-0 all-time against the Wolverines.

Weber State will have nine days off now before facing Gonzaga on Sep. 2 in Spokane, Wash.
