Wildcats Down Idaho State for First Win

POCATELLO, Idaho -- After opening the year with a pair of losses, the Weber State men's tennis team broke into the 2012 win column on Wednesday with a 5-2 win over Idaho State at the Reed Gym Courts.
The Wildcats swept all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Dave Hintze and Ryan Garner defeated Krzyzstof Stempien and Austin Miller 8-5 in the No. 3 match, and Caio Poitena and Peter Ramstromer Pello got past Nate Gross and Dan Buckingham 8-6 at No. 2 to earn the point. Simon Unger and Oliver Good battled to a 9-7 win over Dakota Pate and Charles Norman at No. 1 to complete the sweep.
In singles action, Weber State took the top threee matches to earn the three points necessary to clinch the match win, and added another win at No. 5 to finish off the scoring.
Unger cruised past Norman 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 1 match, while Good rallied from a 5-7 first set loss to win the final two sets, and the match, 6-4, 6-4 over Gross at No. 2. Hintze split his first two sets with Buckingham 6-4, 3-6, before taking the final set 6-3 for the match win at No. 3.
Poitena also won in three sets, defeating Miller 4-6, 7-6, 10-8 in the No. 5 match for the final point of the night for the Wildcats.
