'Cats fall to Gophers in Vegas tournament finale

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Weber State University softball team wrapped up its participation in the Sportco Kickoff Classic on Sunday afternoon with 8-0, five-inning setback to Minnesota.
After scoring 18 runs in their first four games, the Wildcats' bats struggled to connect, garnering just two hits against the Gophers.
Senior third baseman Lyndsey Minnich and freshman catcher Janel Cunningham each had a hit, while sophomore first baseman Ashley Huddleston reached on a walk, as Weber State got just three runners on base.
Minnesota (2-1) scored twice in the first inning and once in the second to take a 3-0 lead, before closing the game out with a five-run fifth.
Weber State (2-3) will return to action on Friday against New Mexico State, opening up a five-game stay at the Troy Cox Classic in Las Cruces, N.M.
