'Cats drop final two games at Boise State tourney

BOISE, Idaho - The Wildcats came up short during their final two games at the SpringHill Suites Invitational on Sunday afternoon.
The Weber State University softball team fell 12-1 in six innings to the University of New Mexico in the day's first game, and then dropped a 7-2 decision to host Boise State in the second game, to finish the three-day tournament at Mountain Cove Field with a 1-4 mark.
The Wildcats (10-17) battled with the Lobos during the first game, with the contest sitting square at 1-1 through five innings after senior Sarah Clark had an RBI double that scored freshman Janel Cunningham in the bottom of the fifth.
New Mexico (22-6) scored two in the sixth to take a 3-1 lead, and then broke the game open with six hits and two Weber State errors to score nine runs in the seventh.
The Wildcats managed just three hits against the Lobos, with Lyndsey Minnich and London Clarke getting singles in addition to Clark's double.
Against the Broncos (23-10), Weber State fell behind 5-0 after two innings and trailed 7-0 after four.
The Wildcats finished the game with five hits, with sisters London Clarke and Cydnee Clarke each going 2-of-2 at the plate. Cunningham had the remaining hit for the Wildcats.
Weber State will return home on Thursday for a doubleheader against the University of Nevada, which will mark the Wildcats final pre-conference games of the season. First pitch against the Wolf Pack is set for 2 p.m.
