OGDEN, Utah - Aside from one shot, the Wildcats did everything right.
Unfortunately for the Weber State University women's soccer team, that one shot proved to be their undoing.
Northern Arizona's Cierra Gamble scored in the 39th minute off a rebound of a blocked shot and the Lumberjacks escaped Wildcat Soccer Field with a 1-0 upset of the Wildcats in Big Sky Conference action on Friday afternoon.
Weber State recorded a season-high 24 shots, placing 11 on frame, while holding Northern Arizona to just eight and five attempts on frame.
Freshman forward Stacy Bair, freshman midfielder Chansi Crompton and sophomore midfielder Ryley Hansen each recorded four shots for Weber State, which outshot Northern Arizona 13-7 in the first half and 11-1 in the second 45 minutes.
Freshman forward Mackenzie Harrison, sophomore midfielder Abbey Kennedy and junior midfielder Sarah Mager each recorded two shots, and six other Wildcats had one attempt each.
Weber State was in total command of the match for much of the opening half, out-possessing the Lumberjacks by a nearly 3-1 margin during the opening 45 minutes.
The Lumberjacks' match-winner came after Elinor Priest hit a shot that was blocked, with the rebound coming back to Nicole Sherwin who played it to Gamble.
Northern Arizona had a brief flurry of shot attempts after the goal, but recorded only one shot in the final 48 minutes of the match as they sent the ball to the corners repeatedly in the second half to kill clock time.
While the Wildcats didn't possess the ball as easily in the second half as they did in the first, they did still finish with an 11-1 advantage in shots during the half, including a screaming 25 yarder by Bair that caromed off the crossbar in the 63rd minute.
Weber State (1-2-0 Big Sky, 3-9-0 overall) will be back in action on Sunday at Noon against in-state rival Southern Utah (0-2-0 Big Sky, 1-6-1 overall). The Thunderbirds are coming off a 2-1 loss at Idaho State on Friday, with the Bengals scoring the match-winner with just two seconds left on the clock.
