POCATELLO, Idaho -- The Weber State women's soccer team earned another road point on Saturday as they fought to a 1-1 double overtime draw with conference rival Idaho State at Davis Field.
Chansi Crompton scored her second goal of the season in the 20th minute, beating a Bengal defender and firing a crossing shot from the left to the far post. The goal gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead, which they would hold for the remainder of the opening half.
In the 49th minute, Idaho State's Allyssa Kenney equalized the match, with a 38-yard rocket that deflected in off the crossbar.
"The girls controlled a big section of the match today," said WSU head coach Tim Crompton. "We certainly had our chances to score a second goal, but just couldn't get it to fall. Nevertheless, we did enough to get a point on the road, so we will take it and move forward."
Weber State controlled the game early, outshooting the Bengals 11-2 over the first 45 minutes, but ISU found their offense later in the match, and took an 8-6 edge in shots across the second half and the overtime periods.
Weber State held the bulk of the scoring chances, posting 10 shots on-goal to their opponents five, but ISU goalkeeper Sheridan Hapsic recorded nine saves to keep her team in the game. Ryann Waldman earned the tie in goal for Weber State with four saves.
Weber State moves to 7-3-3 overall on the season and bumped their Big Sky Conference point total to 10 with a 3-1-1 record. The Wildcats are within three points of Portland State, who is on top of the table with 13 points on a 4-0-1 record. The Vikings will have a chance to seperate themselves even more from the rest of the field as they face Northern Arizona at home on Sunday. Idaho State's record moved to 5-6-2 overall and 2-1-2 in league play.
The Wildcats will host Portland State in a crucial home match on Thursday, Oct. 17 in their next contest.
