WSU Bounces Back with Win at NAU

After suffering their first defeat of the Big Sky season with a 2-1 loss to Southern Utah in Cedar City, Utah two days earlier, the Wildcats (7-3-2 overall) came back strong and earned the full three points against the Lumberjacks to move to 3-1-0 in league play.
“The team played really well today,” said WSU head coach Tim Crompton. “It was nice to see the girls bounce back after a disappointing result on Friday. Conference matches are difficult to win on the road, so anytime you can come away with a victory is extremely satisfying.”
Abbie Kennedy put the Wildcats on the board in the 32nd minute, as she finished a shot in the box off of a cross from Stacy Bair.
Weber State held the lead until the 62nd minute, when NAU's Emily Wadell was able to get on the end of a rebounded shot to equalize the game at one goal each.
The Lumberjack lead lasted only six minutes, ending with Mackenzie Harrison finding Chansi Crompton with a pass, and Crompton finding the back of the net for her first goal of the season and the eventual game-winner.
“Both of our goals had a nice build up, and were good finishes,” said Crompton. “When we are connecting with our passes, and are able to build our attack like we did today, our offense is very effective.”
The Wildcats outshot NAU 13-11 overall, but WSU was extremely efficient in its shooting, placing 10 of their shots on-goal, while holding the Lumberjacks to only five shots on target.
“Defensively, we played very well at the back,” said Crompton. “And we were very organized as a whole, which helped keep the pressure off of our goal.”
Ryann Waldman recorded four saves to get the win as goalkeeper for the Wildcats.
Weber State remained undefeated in matches at NAU with a 5-0-2 all-time record at Lumberjack Stadium. The Wildcats will face Idaho State in Pocatello on Saturday, Oct. 12 for its lone match next week.
