RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Weber State University softball team dropped two games during the opening day of the Amy S. Harrison Classic.
The Wildcats dropped a 10-1 decision in five innings to Boise State in the tournament's opening game, and then lost a tough 2-0 setback against San Diego in the early afternoon.
Weber State (0-7) was led on the day by two hits from sophomore Stephanie Mathias, while freshman Alyson Kulp, freshman Krystin Kubo, junior Brooke Silva and senior London Clarke each had single hits.
Kulp, while officially recording just one hit, reached base in four of her seven at-bats during the day. Her single against Boise State garnered her an RBI as it brought freshman Jazmine Thompson across the plate.
The Broncos (5-6) turned a tight game into a 6-0 lead with a five-run second inning, and then added two more in the third and fifth innings to take a 10-0 advantage.
In the second game, the Wildcats went to the wire with the Toreros, despite falling behind 1-0 in the first inning.
Weber State recorded four hits in the game, while sophomore right hander Morgan Allaband had six strikeouts in going the complete game.
Weber State will face just one game on each of its final two days at the Harrison Classic, taking on host UC Riverside on Saturday at 3 p.m. and then again on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
