Wildcats Return to Action in Loss to Hornets

OGDEN, Utah -- The Weber State tennis team returned from a two-week long break in the schedule on Sunday, and suffered a 5-2 loss against Sacramento State at the Ogden Athletic Club.
The Wildcats put up a fight against the Big Sky powerhouse Hornets, nearly stealing the doubles point and winning twice in singles.
"This was a very competitive performance against a very good team," said WSU head coach Brad Ferreira. "They have won the Big Sky each of the last two years, and were picked first again this season. I'm very proud of the effort that our guys put forth today."
The Wildcats just missed out taking the doubles point and the early lead in the match. After Todd Fought and Sanjay Goswami defeated Roy Brandys and Sean Kolar 8-6 in the No. 2 doubles match, and Sacramento State won at No. 3, the point came down to the top match.
Oliver Good and Caio Poitena battled against Marek Marksoo and Aliaksandr Malko, but the pair just fell short in a tiebreaker 9-8.
In singles, Fought earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Malko in the No. 2 match, and Goswami defeated Niranjan Ram 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 5 match. Caio Poitena won his opening set 6-3, but Kolar rallied for the final two sets and the win 6-0, 6-2.
