OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State University softball team came up short in its series finale against Portland State on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats earned just two hits and committed four errors as they dropped the 9-2 decision to the Vikings in Big Sky Conference action at Wildcat Softball Field.
Junior shortstop Brooke Silva provided the biggest fireworks for the day for the Wildcats, smashing a 1-0 pitch over the fence at left center in the first inning.
Senior center fielder London Clarke earned the other hit, getting an RBI single fifth inning as she beat the throw to first as freshman infielder Brooke Ford slid across the plate to give the Wildcats two runs on the afternoon.
Weber State dropped to 2-4 in Big Sky play after losing three over the weekend to the presumptive Big Sky front runners, who improved to 5-1 in league play.
Weber State's players, coaches and staff wore pink uniforms and shirts during Saturday's game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.
The Wildcats will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they host a non-conference doubleheader against former PCSC Mountain Division rival Utah Valley. First pitch is set for 2 p.m., with a second game to follow at approximately 4 p.m.
